Margaret Joan "Peg" Libertus, 67, died Sept. 26, from complications of ovarian cancer. Peg had to use a wheelchair due to polio. Despite that, Peg persevered. She earned a BA in English, an MA and MFA in theater arts, receiving honors for her direction of "Waiting for Godot". In Gainesville, Peg taught drama at Santa Fe College. She received a Florida Artist's Grant for her fiction writing. She encouraged local writers. She wrote, directed, and staged her tour-de-force, the musical "The Boxer of Basin Street". Peg had a strong commitment to community service and political activism. "She fought for her rights as a person with a disability long before any law said she had any." She loved poetry, music, astronomy and pro football. Peg enjoyed playing bridge and poker with friends and fishing off the piers of Cedar Key. She leaves behind her sweet dog, Fast Eddy, two brothers and cousins and friends across the country.
