  William was probably the William Donald who arrived in New York aboard the Circassia this date. The age, and country of origin are right, and his stated occupation, "moulder," is something that would have been likely in a shipbuilding town like Dundee.

  William filed "first papers" for naturalization while in Rawlins County.

• Anecdote: Abt 1897-1900, Decaturville, Camden County, Missouri, USA;

  William fell in love with a young woman when his family lived near Decaturville. Her family objected to an affiliation with a "foreigner" and there was general prejudice against the Scottish family with their thick brogue. As a result, the family moved a few miles away, and settled in Hooker township, Laclede County, where they bought a farm and remained.

  On Wednesday morning while William Donald was out feeding his stock he was overtaken by the sudden and severe thunder and rain storm. He sought shelter under a tree in the barn yard where he was stricken by lightning and killed. Mr. Donald was an unmarried man and lived with his mother, sisters and brother on a farm five miles north of Lebanon. He was a native of Scotland and had many friends in the vicinity of his home.
