• RESEARCH: Was Marcilla's first husband the Luther Benton Taylor who was hung for murder in Clay Co ARK on 4 September 1880? --Marcilla married "L. B. Taylor" 14 September 1880. (Filed 28 January 1881.) --In 1880 Howell County, Chapel township, a Luther B. Taylor, age 22, is found in the census home of his sister, Martha (Taylor) Crowder. --Marcilla Deboard was enumerated in the same township, just one page prior. --Luther Taylor's 1860 and 1870 census also indicate his birth around 1857-58 in Arkansas. --The Luther "Bent" Taylor who was hung for murder in Clay Co ARK was profiled in an article in the New York Herald the next day. Although clearly histrionic, the article mentioned that he was born in Clay County, Arkansas, in 1857; that he went at some point to "Southern Missouri" and additionally mentions Howell and Douglas Counties specifically; that he "married a fair girl, and for a time was happy and contented". --At the time of the murder he was riding with two other men, Riley Black whom he was said to murder and another man named William Mulholland. --Luther Benton Taylor had an older half brother named Riley J. Taylor, both seen in the 1860 Howell Co census home of their father, John Taylor. --In 1880 Riley J. Death was caused by gall bladder trouble and other complications Mrs DeBoard was born in in Iberia, Mo., October 20, 1869, but left there with her parents while still a child. In 1889 she was married to Adrian L. DeBoard in Mountain View, Mo., and in 1917 they moved to the Davenport area. She was the mother of nine children, three of which have preceded her in death. Her husband died in 1930. Survivors Survivors include four sons, two daughters, 22 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. Sons are Franklin N. DeBoard, Neosho, Mo.; Artie DeBoard, Villonia, Ark.; Otis DeBoard, Turlock, Calif.; and Tom DeBoard, Drumright. Daughters are Mrs. Pearl Stogsdill, Fort Worth, Texas; and Mrs. Eulah White, Davenport. She has one step-son, Jess DeBoard, of Newark, Okla. Children preceding her in death were Mae and Annie Deboard and Len L. DeBoard. Mrs. DeBoard was a charter member of the Davenport Church of the Nazarene since it was first organized in 1908 in Pilot Point, Texas."

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dale Baptist church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Robert Larner officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at McLeansboro. The body will lie in state at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro where friends may call after 6:00 p.m. today. DeBoard, 88, of 2020 South 22nd, died Saturday evening at a local hospital. The Rev. DeBoard, formerly of Nowata, Okla., had been living in St. Joseph with his daughter, Mrs. Geraldine A. Simpson, for the past three years. He was born in Howell County in Missouri. He was a retired minister for the Church of the Nazarene, and he held his last office in Sillivan, Okla., in 1965. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie B. DeBoard, in 1975. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Simpson, Louis H. Ferguson of Alexandria, Ind., Mrs. Eunice D. Bac of Nowata, and Mrs. Merle C. W. O. Langford, Nazarene pastor, read the rites. Linzie Lynn DeBoard, born Sept. 22, 1903, at Mountain View, Mo., died at his home in Tulsa October 3. He lived in the Drumright community about five years ago. He was married to Maggie Gray, Drumright, on Nov. 9, 1935. DeBoard never recovered from an operation for cancer of the stomach in October, 1949. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Maggie DeBoard; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Neeley and Miss Ruth DeBoard, all of Tulsa; his mother, Mrs. A. L. DeBoard, Davenport. Others include five brothers: Rev. F. N. The man, Roley DeBoard, 756 South Gearhart street, East Los Angeles, aid the two gunmen held him up at the station where he works at 500 South Atlantic boulevard. After he gave them all the money he had in his pocket, DeBoard said, one of the men smashed him on the side of the head with a revolver threatening to "blow your head off if you don't tell us where the rest is." DeBoard reached into a secret hiding place and pulled out a bagful of money. Then he was struck again on the back of the head and knocked unconscious. He was treated at Angeles Emergency hospital."

Their daughter Lu tells about the move: "The night before we moved we all stayed with the Jenkins, our cousins. We got up the next morning, took a whole bunch of pictures and piled into a '48 Dodge and a '41 Ford pickup, with all our belongings and 9 people in those two cars. They first lived in Boring, Oregon, where Bill Zumwalt had a strawberry farm between Boring and Kelso. They stayed with Bill and Carrie Zumwalt for a few days until they all found jobs on a strawberry farm closer to Gresham. A few weeks later they moved into some cabins back at the Zumwalt's farm. After a few months, the family relocated to Hood River, Oregon, where fruit packing was a major industry.

He died December 27, 2004, in Mountain View, Missouri, at the age of 91 years. He received his high school education at School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri, and graduated in 1933. After military service, Warren attended the Kansas City School of Pharmacy in Kansas City, Missouri, where he graduated in 1950. He was united in marriage to Doris Christine Penninger on August 2, 1941, in Hannibal, Missouri, and to this union two children were born, James Warren and Susan Ellen. Warren served his country in the U.S. Army as a Technical Sergeant and Combat Medic in the 301st Medical Detachment, 94th Infantry Division from December 2, 1942, until January 5, 1946. He was awarded four bronze stars and a good conduct medal. He was a member of the Howell County School Board, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and HOST Shrine Club. He was a longtime member of The First Presbyterian Church in Mountain View, Missouri. Warren also served as a Republican Committeeman for Goldberry Township and on the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy. Warren owned and operated DeBoard Drug Store in Mountain View, Missouri, from 1952 to 1974. He also served as the hospital pharmacist at St. Francis Hospital for numerous years. Survivors include his dear friend, Auda Richardson; one son, James DeBoard, of Chesterfield, Missouri; one daughter, Susan Ellen Price, of Mountain View, Missouri; three sisters, Mildred Dutton, of Canton, Ohio, Ola Fay Riley, of Fortuna, California, and Annabelle Brewer, of Perryville, Missouri; five grandchildren, James Paul DeBoard, Erika Christine Bojanowski, Phillip Warren DeBoard, Stephen Earl Price, and Rachel Christine Jester. • Obituary: PERRYVILLE, Mo. ? Lora AnnaBelle DeBoard Brewer, 87, died Monday, Feb. 25, at the Independence Care Center in Perryville. She was born June 28, 1920, in Mountain View, the daughter of Louis Lynn and Phronia May (Thomas) DeBoard, who both predeceased her. She married Courtney Elvis Brewer on Aug. 5, 1944, and he predeceased her. She was the retired owner and operator of Brewer Chain Saw in Perryville. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Woman?s Society, Eastern Star and Perry Dice Boat Club in Perryville and an alumnus of the School of the Ozarks. She is survived by six sons, Billy Brewer of Perry County, Kevin and Karen Brewer of Charleston, S.C., James Thomas Brewer, Kenneth Brewer, Mark and Carla Brewer and Gary and Tina Brewer, all of Perryville; four daughters, Cynthia MayeBell Brewer and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Phillip McWhorter of Lewiston, Darlene and Gary Weibrecht, Connie and John Lewis and Terrie Leann and Bob Adams, all of Perryville; a stepson, Courtney Darryl Brewer of Perryville; two sisters, Lucy Mildred Dutton of Canton, Ohio and Ola Faye Riley of Fortuna, Calif.; 32 grandchildren including Shannon and Capt. Jon Smith of the Azores Islands, Stephanie McWhorter of San Diego, Calif., Rachel and Ryan Cooper of Lewiston, Amber McWhorter of Provo, Utah, Alex and Jessica McWhorter of Lehi, Utah and Nicole and Ashley McWhorter, both of Lewiston; 19 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers, Wayne, Warren, Eldon and Weldon DeBoard and a grandson, Joshua MacKenzie Phillip McWhorter.
