This fits what we know of his family fairly well. According to the "Roush Family in America", John George Roush would have had at this time 4 sons (George, Andrews, Phillip, John) all under 16, and one daughter, Margaret. The only discrepancy, then, is one additional son listed in ce census. Since we show a number of children born very quickly, and then none from 1785 - 1791 it is likely that there were some babies who didn't survive. I consider this a good possibility.

Probably born in Lebanon County, PA, which is where he was baptized 2 Sept 1753 in Hill Church (Lutheran).

John married Christina Morr in 1773 in Freeburg, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Christina (daughter of Andrew Morr) was born on 4 Aug 1757; died before 1793 in Pennsylvania, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

It is my guess that Andrew ROUSE/ROUSH moved to Howell Co MO not long before 1860. His older children had apparently married in OH, as they are not present in the home (only Eli and Jerome). The gap in years before the next set of children indicates the likelihood that Catherine HOOT died, and Andrew remarried. He is no longer in Howell County by the time of the 1870 census. Since the "Roush Family in America" book indicates that Elias and Jerome were buried in Elkhard, Indiana, the family may have relocated to this area. One motivation for the move might have been the extremely violent condition of Howell County throughout the Civil War.

Mr. Arbogast was born in Scranton, Pa. in 1838 and came to Missouri before the war. At the close of the war, in which he was a confederate soldier, he moved to West Plains. Howell, daughter of Erasmus Howell and niece of Thomas Howell, for whom Howell Co. was named?Mrs. Arbogasts death occurred March, 11, 1891 some years later he was married to Elizabeth Depriest of Thomasville whom he survived just one year. Mr. Arbogast had been a sufferer from heart trouble for several years and although he had been in quite a serious condition for some time his death came unexpectedly. His daughter Mrs. Hill of West Plains, had been with him much of the time the past few weeks but had been in West Plains a few days preparing to move to Thomasville she with another daughter of Mr. Arbogast, Mrs. Thos. Walker who arrived from Los Angeles, Calif. were enroute to Thomasville when his death occurred. The decedent is survived by five children?Mmes. Eva Hill of West Plains, W. F. It is too great a coincidence that the Rausch family book would indicate an Eva Roush with a son, Philip Arbogast who had moved from PA to MO. PLUS finding a Philip Arbogast in Howell Co, b in PA, who named a daughter Eva. This is certainly a nephew of John Roush.

Name:
One obit named him as Phillip Allen Arbogast, while another named him Philip Augustus Arbogast. One gave his birth in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, while the other gave his birth in Scranton, PA.

Death cert named him as Philip Allen Arbogast, and only cited Pennsylvania as his birthplace.

My mother, Lu Walker, and her distant cousin Ruth Kenaga remember that Adam Roush could not read or write and wore wooden shoes to work in his garden.
