    Obituary:
Irene (Clark) DeBoard, obituary, Hood River, 2005
Dessie Irene DeBoard died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in Sublimity, Ore. She was 97 years of age.
A funeral service was to be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center in Hood River, Ore. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery in Hood River.
Dessie Irene Clark was born on Oct. 16, 1908, the first of seven children born to John Lawson Clark and Minnie Matilda Story.
They lived in the small village of Amy, Mo., which consisted of a post office, a church and the general store owned by her grandfather John C. Clark.
Her mother died when Irene was 13, leaving a heavy responsibility on her young shoulders for caring for her younger brothers and sisters.
Irene married Floyd Wilson DeBoard on Aug. 29, 1929. The couple moved from Springfield back to the Mountain View area, where Floyd taught through the years in many of the rural schools of the region, and Irene raised their growing family.
In June of 1951 Floyd and Irene, with a family of seven children (ages 4 to 20), made the move to Oregon. They settled in Hood River, where most of their younger children graduated from high school.
In 1957, Floyd died quite suddenly. Irene and her youngest son, Bill DeBoard, moved to Salem, Ore., where she worked and Bill finished school.
She continued to make her life in Salem for the next 40 years. She attended the First Baptist Church in Salem until she moved to assisted living at Marion Estates in Sublimity, in 1997.
Irene was fashionable as a young woman in the clothing of the 1920's, and she maintained those high standards for personal grooming and attire throughout her long life; hair, nails, makeup, and jewelry were important to her. She loved to shop, and particularly enjoyed Christmas shopping for her children and grandchildren each year.
She loved watching Cardinal baseball on television, but her greatest hobby was cutting and piecing quilts; many of her quilts were sent from Oregon back to Missouri to be quilted by Mary DeBoard at the Ladies Aid of the Forest Dell community near Mountain View.
Irene particularly enjoyed family gatherings, and looked forward to her annual birthday party; the family gathered in Sublimity to celebrate her 97th birthday this past October. Her powers of observation and perception continued to amaze her family and friends to the very end of her life.
Irene is survived by her seven children: Lu Walker of Beaverton Ore.; Cora Leah Henshaw of John Day, Ore.; Donald DeBoard of Salem; Edwin DeBoard of Hood River; Jaunita Cross of Prineville, Ore.; Snoden DeBoard of Prineville, Ore.; and Bill DeBoard of Sherwood, Ore. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

"Clark Boy Killed In Auto Accident Near Braddyville Iowa Women Dangerously Injured in Collision Saturday Night. Six Skidmore Youths Serve as Pallbearers Roland Clark, 19 years of age, was killed almost instantly Saturday night in an automobile collision five miles east and two and a half miles north of Braddyville, Ia. He was driving alone en route to Maryville from a farm near Braddyville where he was employed. He generally visited over the week ends with his sisters in Maryville. A woman and a child in the other automobile were critically injured, and another woman's injuries were less serious. Mrs. Forrest Richardson of Shambaugh is in a hospital at Shenandoah, Ia., where her condition is said to be critical. She suffered a broken pelvic bone and crushed vertebrae. Mrs. Billy Babb, also of Shambaugh, is being treated at her home, but her 2 1/2 year-old daughter is in an Iowa City hospital. View Obstructed The young man was said to have been driving east and was turning south at an intersection. A slight knoll at the turn apparently obstructed the view from the south and the car in which the women were driving struck Clark's automobile in the side. Both cars were demolished. Clark was the son of John Lawson Clark of Skidmore. His mother lives in Arkansas. He was born July 4, 1920, at Amy, Mo. Besides his father and mother, Clark leaves two brothers and four sisters: Raymond Clark, Skidmore; David Clark, Long Beach, Calif.; Misses Edna and Thelma Clark and Mrs. Marian Carroll, 122 East Jenkins, Maryville; Mrs. Floyd Debord, Hocomo, Mo. Classmates Pallbearers Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Price funeral home in Maryville. Rev. Fred Terry officiated. The burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery. Six of the youth's classmates served as pallbearers: Homer Dean Beverlin, Richard Worl, Harry Mitchell, Jr., Robert Mitchell, Gene Thompson and Donald Blackney, all of Skidmore."

    Notes:

Died age 21 in an auto accident around 1940. Never married. Died in the spring when the family still lived in Egypt Grove. Iola may have been adopted, and given the name Iola Jewell Whalen. She is clearly referred to as Iola Whalen in the 1953 obituary of her brother Jackie [Clark] Rader--also apparently adopted or with a foster family.

She is clearly called Iola Guhde in the 1998 obituary of her sister Edna.

FindAGrave names her as "Iola Jewell (Whelen) Guhde" and names her parents as Leo Dennis Whelan and Irene Mae (Reedy) Whelan.

The SSDI gives the birth date of Iola J. Guhde as 13 August 1942, which fits perfectly to make her the second child of John L. Clark and second wife Virginia.

    • Biography: Obituary on FindAGrave, no citation to a newspaper: Coan Rush passed away on December 19, 2018, at the age of 73. One of thirteen children, she was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1945, to Marvin and Emma Ellen Clark. She attended high school at Gracemont, Oklahoma and was a graduate of Redlands College of Nursing. She was a mother of 3: Tracie Verkler and Stephanie Jones, both of Kingfisher, and Chlee Rush of Portland, Oregon. After leaving the farm fields of Caddo County, she moved to Bethany where she married Jim Harris, also from Gracemont. She worked at Deaconess Hospital before shifting into the technical field at Honeywell International Inc., where her math and logical skills were put to use. During her time at Honeywell she was a lead organizer of the labor union and met and married her second husband, Bill Rush. Following the end of her second marriage, she journeyed to Houston, Texas and set about making a new life for her and the children. She worked for a time for the offshore oil field company SEDCO before settling in as a comptroller for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA.) True to her sodbuster upbringing, Coan was resilient. Her life took many twists and turns?some with eccentric animation and others out of necessity and desperation but through all of it, she was determined. All beings seek to be noticed in life; however, Coan was not simply noticed but will always be remembered and recalled by those she encountered. You couldn?t miss or mistake her for anyone else because of Coan?s unique perspective on life. Coan passes on to her three children and seven grandchildren (Taylor, Magen, Dakota, Samantha, Noah, Abbie, and Kayla) her hard-fought endurance, tender soul and flair for seeking extraordinary in the commonness of the day-to-day.
