John Best is found living in the home with Britty's likely father, Steven/Stephen Sawyer, but with no wife present. Four-year-old John Best, also found in the 1850 census, appears with his father in the 1860 census, supporting these conclusions--and rendering it likely that 7-year-old Margret Best in the 1850 census was also the child of John Best and his first wife, Britty Sawyer.
In 1851, John Best married Sophia Sawyer.
