Text Migration from Maryland into North Carolina generally followed the Piedmont
section of Va down through the
center of the state and across the North Carolina line. The Piedmont section
continues across the NC line into
upper South Carolina into what was originally the 96th District of SC. While
it is true that Pennsylvanians moved
south through the Shedandoah Valley into the Valley of Virginia, those out of
    Maryland crossed from Prince
George's, Frederick, etc Counties into Fairfax, Fauquier, and Culpepper and
followed the land which ended on the
west with the Blue Ridge Mountains, into what was Rowan County, North
Carolina. Surry Co, NC was divided
from Rowan in 1770; Wilkes was carved out of Surry in 1777.

At this time I believe there are at least three groups of Walkers in Maryland
prior to the 1800 Census: The
Toaping Castle Walkers, the Gervase (or Col. John) Walker bunch and the
descendants of Daniel Walker of Prince
George's Md. There are other stray Walkers in Wilkes Co, NC prior to the
1800 Census that I cannot place in
families at this time. I believe also that there is a cross-over or mix up
in the Daniel Walker crew and the Toaping
Castle Walkers, but have been chastised for even mentioning it.

Daniel Walker (1702) mar Alice (___) and had seven children, one of whom,
    Charles (1668-1730 Pr. Geo's Co,
MD) mar Rebecca Isaac. This couple's son Charles (1698 Pr Geo - aft 1700)
    married 1st Mary (___). Charles
and Mary had Charles b. 1727 Prince George's Co, MD - d. Hardin Co, TN. By
    his first wife, Elena Prather,
Charles (1727-) had Eliza, Nathaniel, Isaac and Zachariah. By his second
wife, Elizabeth Dailey, Charles (1727- )
had Samuel, Charles, Isaac, Simeon, Dailey and eight daughters. Charles
(1698 -aft 1700) and Mary also had
Nathaniel, who married Elizabeth (___) and had Renalder b. ca 1748.

The American portion of the Gervase Walker Family begins with John (1697
Ireland -1742 DE). his son, Col.
John Walker (1728 DE - 1796 Rutherford Co, NC) married Elizabeth Watson. The
    couple moved to North
Carolina between 1755 and 1757. Their sons were Felix (1753), James Reuben
    (1757), William (1760), Thomas
    (1762), Joseph (1765), George (1768) and Jacob (1771).

The Toaping Castle Walker family begins in MD as well and appears later in
    upper North Carolina and quickly
moves on to South Carolina, especially Edgefield Co, SC.

Other intermarried families moving with the Walkers are the families of
Greer, Dailey, Low, DeMoss and Isaac.

Beginning with 1774, Isaac Walker (Chas, Chas, Chas, Daniel) lives in Surry
Co, NC and is then int he portion of
Wilkes that is cut out of Surry. He continues to appear until he moves to
Dickson Co, TN in 1799. He marries
Rhoda Greer in Wilkes. His brother Dailey marries Hannah Smith in Wilkes in
    1778. His cousin Renalder
(Nathaniel, Chas, Chas, Danl) marries Mary Wilcoxsin the same day. The 1782
    Tax List of Wilkes contains
Charles, Isaac, Renalder and Zachariah of the Daniel Walker Family. I cannot
    account for Archelus, Howard,
Phillip and Randolph. The 17887 Tax List for Capt Isbel's District has
Samuel Walker (Chas, Chas , Chas, Danl)
, his wife Martha, his sons Zephiniah and Isaac and his dtrs Ellender and
Rachel. Isaac Walker (Chas, Chas, Chas,
Danl) and his wife Rhoda and their dtr Polly [can't account for other male in
    household]; Charles Walker (Chas,
Chas, Chas, Dani'l) and his wife Hannah Smith; Capt Gordon;s District has
    Howard Walker.
The 1788 Tax List has Isaac Walker and his brother Samuel.

The 1790 Census of Wilkes Co, NC ha Charles Walker, Simeon Walker brother of
Isaac and son of Charles, West
Walker, son of Elijah, Thomas Walker (can't identify), George Walker (his
will is probated in Wilkes in 1851),
Jonathan Walker (?), Daily Walker brother of Isaac and son of Charles, George
    Walker, Reuben, brother of Felix
Walker, son of Col John, Reynard [Renalder] (Nathaniel, Chas, Chas, Daniel),
    Thomas Walker ?

It is possible that the Gideon and Howard and possibly Zachariah belong to a
fourth family from Maryland, the Gideon Walker/Priscilla Duvall family of
Prince George's Co, MD but have never researched this family to any extent.

Hope this is a beginning to sorting out Wilkes County. Would be greatly
interested in any contributions or changes anyone can make to what I have
    figured out.
