    • It is by no means certain that this is the Jacob Walker who was the son of Elijah Walker, and who left Tennessee after the Civil War. However, supporting the likelihood are 1) the family story that he had left Tennessee suddenly after some sort of unfortunate, possibly violent, incident; 2) that the age and birth state of this Jacob Walker are compatible with our Jacob Walker, and 3) that we know Tom Walker (his nephew, who would have known him as a young boy) ran into him at a sale in Arkansas, and said that "Jake" was living in Arkansas. A death certificate for Jacob might be helpful in determining his parentage with more certainty.
An additional note about this census. It would appear that Jacob's birth year was given as 1857, but his age is clearly stated as 48, which would make the birth year 1852. I have transcribed it as it appears to me to have been written, but I believe 1852 is probably the more accurate date.
