93-Year-Old Pioneer Dies at South Fork
    -----
William Ashley Ritchey Had Lived on Same Farm for 70 Years. Was Brother of the Late Rev. J. W. Ritchey
    -----
William Ashley Ritchey, 93, well known pioneer farmer of Howell county, died suddenly this morning at 6:15 o'clock at his farm one mile northeast of South Fork, where he had made his home for 70 years.

Despite his years Mr. Ritchey had been physically active until one year ago, and he frequently walked from his farm to South Fork postoffice, a distance of one mile. He had been up yesterday spending a portion of the day sitting on the porch at his home.

With him at the time of his death were a son-in-law and daughter, the Rev. Douglas Galloway and a devoted grandson Ambrose Galloway, who moved to the Ritchey farm 16 years ago to care for Mr. Ritchey after the death of his wife.

Besides Mrs. Galloway there are two other daughters, Mrs. Andy DeBoard of Mountain View, and Mrs. Ed Clark of South Fork, and two sons, S.M. (Roe) Ritchey of Long View, Tex., and Albert Ritchey of Seagraves, Tex. Another son, A.W. Ritchey, whose widow Mrs. Violet Ritchey, is postmistress at South Fork, died a few years ago, and a daughter, Mrs. J.T. (Nettie) Briscoe of South Fork, has been dead some years. Two children died in infancy.
    Brother Late Rev. J.W. Ritchey
Mr. Ritchey, who was born May 20, 1848, in Franklin county, Missouri, was a brother of the late Rev. J.W. Ritchey, pastor of the old Cumberland Presbyterian Church in West Plains many years ago.
William A. Ritchey was married more than 72 years ago to Miss Elizabeth Linthicum, also of Franklin county, who came with him to Howell county two years after their marriage, the couple settling on the farm at South Fork, where Mrs. Ritchey died sixteen years ago. Mrs. Ritchey was an aunt of Sid Morris and Alfred Clark of West Plains.
Throughout the years of his residence in Howell county Mr. Ritchey had been known to his friends as a man of unusual character. He was kindly and optimistic and took a prominent part in the various activities in his home community. He was a long-time member of the Congregational Methodist Church, and a well-informed Bible student. He also was a life long and ardent democrat and always took an active interest in the political affairs of his community and county.

While a very young man he received a wound to one of his legs which left him with a limp but he never permitted the injury to handicap him in his work, and carried on the operation of his farm and other work until his advanced age made it necessary for him to retire from active life.

    Funeral Tomorrow

Funeral services for Mr. Ritchey will be heald tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at South Fork, with the Rev. Jim Sharp, assisted by the Rev. Retus DeBoard, in charge.
