    Text Dear Janis,

Dianne Erwin (erwin1@neto.com) sent me a copy of your note to her. What fun! I am connected through Solomon Hartley, fourth son of James Hartley and Elizabeth Walker. Solomon's oldest was Henry, my ggrandfather, and there are a lot of us after that. He and I have the big families.

I grew up in Cedar County, MO, but have lived most of my married life in Wichita, KS. We went back often to visit my folks, but now go back only occasionally.

The only information any of our branch of Hartleys had was from the county history book by Goodspeed, 1889. I think Polk, Dade, and one other county were also included in that book. There were biographical sketches of John, Richard, and Thomas (sons of James and Elizabeth). They may have been the more prominent ones, but most of the children were listed.

Under John E. Hartley, on p 739, it says: born in Dickson County, Tenn., on the 13th of February, 1821, his parents being James and Elizabeth (Walker) Hartley, who were born near Augusta, Ga., and in Tennessee in 1780 and 1790 and died in Cedar County, Mo., and Bond County Ill., in 1835 and 1855, respectively. They were married in Dickson County, Tenn., whither James and gone when a young man, and in 1831 he emigrated to Bond County, Ill., and 1837 to Polk (now Cedar) County, Mo.

You can see why we have been confused, and how exciting your information is!
